On a limited basis, WSSC Water leases fire hydrant meters (from a minimum of 2 weeks to a maximum of 6 months) to individuals and businesses requesting to purchase WSSC Water potable water without paying sewer charges. Fire hydrants can be used in most of Prince George's and Montgomery Counties (MD). However, parts of Bowie, Rockville, and all of Poolesville have their own water systems, and WSSC Water meters cannot be used on their fire hydrants. The easiest way to identify a WSSC Water hydrant is by its color: all of WSSC Water fire hydrants are painted with a green top and a gray body.
